HOW TO SET IT UP

Step-by-step for ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini

You generated your anti-glaze prompt. Now paste it where it actually sticks.

Each AI has a different place for custom instructions. Some persist across every conversation. Others need re-pasting. Here's how to set it up so you only do it once.

Two ways it can work

Set once

Persistent instructions

You paste the prompt into your account settings or create a project/gem. It applies to every conversation automatically. This is the goal.

Every time

Per-session pasting

You paste the prompt as your first message in each new chat. Works but requires discipline. Some platforms don't give you a better option.

Set once

ChatGPT

ChatGPT gives you two options — quick setup for everyone, and a power option if you want to go deeper.

Recommended

Option 1: Custom Instructions (all plans, free)

The easiest way. Your instructions apply to every new conversation automatically.

  1. Open chatgpt.com and log in
  2. Click your profile icon (bottom-left corner)
  3. Go to SettingsPersonalizationCustom Instructions
  4. In the "How should ChatGPT respond?" field, paste your anti-glaze prompt
  5. Click Save
Limit: 1,500 characters per field. The simple prompt fits easily. The nerd version might need trimming — cut the non-negotiables section first if needed.

Option 2: Build a Custom GPT (Plus plan required)

Create a dedicated "no-glaze" AI persona with a much bigger instruction space.

  1. Go to chatgpt.comExplore GPTs (sidebar)
  2. Click Create (top right)
  3. Switch to the Configure tab
  4. In the Instructions field, paste your full anti-glaze prompt
  5. Give it a name (e.g., "No Glaze GPT") and save
  6. Start new conversations using this GPT instead of default ChatGPT
Limit: 8,000 characters — plenty of room for the full nerd version with all extras. Requires ChatGPT Plus ($20/month).
Heads up: ChatGPT's "Memory" feature is separate from Custom Instructions. Memory stores facts from your conversations automatically — it won't reliably hold a prompt. Use Custom Instructions for the anti-glaze prompt.

Claude

Claude uses Projects to hold persistent instructions. Everything inside a project inherits your prompt automatically.

Recommended

Project Custom Instructions (free — 5 projects)

  1. Open claude.ai and log in
  2. In the sidebar, click Projects
  3. Click Create Project
  4. Name it something like "No Glaze Zone"
  5. Inside the project, click "Set Custom Instructions"
  6. Paste your anti-glaze prompt and save
  7. Start all your conversations inside this project
Limit: Very generous (token-based, not character-based). Both simple and nerd versions fit with room to spare. Free accounts get 5 projects; Pro ($20/month) gets unlimited.
Heads up: Claude has no global custom instructions like ChatGPT. Your prompt only works inside the project where you set it. Regular chats (outside projects) won't use it. Always start from your project.

Gemini

Gemini has two separate systems. We recommend Gems because they're free and available everywhere.

Recommended

Option 1: Create a Gem (free for everyone)

A Gem is your own custom Gemini persona — like a Custom GPT.

  1. Open gemini.google.com and log in
  2. In the sidebar, click Gem manager
  3. Click New Gem
  4. In the instructions box, paste your anti-glaze prompt
  5. Optionally click the magic wand to let Gemini expand your instructions (review what it adds)
  6. Name it (e.g., "Honest Mode") and save
  7. Start conversations using your Gem instead of default Gemini
Why Gems? Free for all Google accounts. No geographic restrictions. Large instruction space. Each Gem is its own isolated context.

Option 2: Instructions for Gemini (paid, limited availability)

A global setting that applies to all standard Gemini conversations.

  1. Click the gear icon (Settings & help) in the sidebar
  2. Under Personal Intelligence, find "Instructions for Gemini"
  3. Paste your anti-glaze prompt
  4. Save — it now applies to all standard chats
Heads up: Requires a Google AI Pro subscription. Not available in the EU, EEA, Switzerland, or UK. Does not apply inside Gems. If you're in Europe or want a free option, use a Gem instead.
Important: Gems and "Instructions for Gemini" are completely separate systems. A prompt in your Gem does NOT carry over to regular Gemini chats, and vice versa.
